Leaving the workforce (until 2028)
“Well, everybody does it that way, Huck." “Tom, I am not everybody.” – Mark Twain, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
It’s official now! In about two weeks, I’m going on paternity leave!
And although it’s not the first time I’m going on extended leave, it’s definitely the longest. I’m expected to return to work in mid-2028, which gives me an incredible 2.5 years away from work!
I still can’t believe how lucky I am. Thanks to our country’s labor laws and our savings, I’ll get to spend most of my time at home, with our two children, guiding them through their first couple of years.
Work is definitely not something I’m going to miss. I used to be passionate about my job, but after the department I worked for got dismantled and the company culture had deteriorated rapidly, I was looking for a change anyway.
This will free up a huge chunk of time, which I’m going to dedicate mainly to my family and my health.
On top of that, we’re planning to travel through southern Europe for a few months, exchanging city life for visiting friends in smaller, more remote places.
The remaining time will go towards leisure, learning and exploration. I’ve got a pile of books waiting to be read, and various topics I’ve been meaning to study. What a pleasure it will be to finally get around to it.
Oh, and last, but not least, I’ll continue writing, because this blog continues to bring me joy. And who knows, perhaps I’ll find the time to start another writing project too.
